Mark and I are at the time of our lives where we’re adjusting to a large, empty house since our kids found their own places and left home. It’s a great opportunity to reevaluate the use of our home and yard, reassigning, redecorating and reorganizing to make our life easier and take advantage of some new freedoms.

We have to keep in mind, however, that soon we’ll be dealing with marriages (hopefully) and grandchildren – making it necessary for us to ensure our home is navigable, safe and healthy for all family members – big and small, and young and old.

If you have kids or even pets, childproofing your home is an essential part of keeping it safe and family friendly.

Doing this as soon as possible, before any accidents happen, is the best way to protect your loved ones.

Some ways of doing this include installing stair gates, putting covers over corners, and hiding wires.
